MIKE DAUBE - Chair

Mike Daube has a long and distinguished history in the health industry, both in Western Australia and internationally.

He has held a variety of roles in WA including the Director General of the Department of Health, Chief Executive Officer of the Cancer Foundation of Western Australia, and Assistant Commissioner of Health and Chief Executive of Princess Margaret Hospital.

Before moving to Western Australia in 1984, he was Senior Lecturer in the Department of community Medicine at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. He has been a consultant and adviser over many years to the World Health Organisation, the International Union against Cancer and governments and non-government organisations in some 30 countries and was recently visiting professor in Public Health at the University of Western Australia and Adjunct Professor of Public Health at Curtin University.

MARGARET STEVENS - Deputy Chair

Margaret Stevens is currently Chief Medical Adviser, Population Health, which incorporates the statutory position of Executive Director, Public Health

She is a graduate of the University of Sydney and holds a Masters of Public Health and Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health from the University of Western Australia.

Since joining the Department of Health in 1989, she has been employed in the areas of cancer control and trauma prevention, which has also involved alcohol control, given the major role of alcohol in intentional and non-intentional injury.

In addition Margaret set up the trials of Emergency Department surveillance for monitoring alcohol-related harm in regional centres.

Other major work undertaken in alcohol control has been in association with Professor Tim Stockwell in research into the association between alcohol consumption, risk taking and injury. As the Executive Director of Public Health Margaret works in collaboration with the Drug and Alcohol Office in intervening against ETPs and changes to liquor licences, under the Liquor Licensing Act.

STEVE ALLSOP

Steve Allsop was the Acting Executive Director of the Drug and Alcohol Office from October 2003 until March 2005. He has worked in the drug and alcohol field for almost 25 years. Until 2000, he was the Director and Associate Professor of the National Centre for Education and Training in Addiction, based in the School of Medicine, Flinders University of South Australia. In addition to his current role, he is Associate Professor in International Health, Centre for International Health, and Adjunct Professorial Fellow, National Drug Research Institute, Curtin University and Adjunct Associate Professor, School of Psychiatry and Neurosciences, University of WA..

Steve has held a number of research and professional development roles in Western Australia, South Australia and Scotland and he holds a PhD from the School of Psychology, Curtin University.

VIOLET BACON

Violet Bacon is currently a lecturer in the discipline of Social Work and Social Policy, at the Faculty of Arts, School of Social and Cultural studies, at the University of WA.

She has extensive experience working in the AOD sector with over 10 years at the WA Alcohol and Drug Authority including counselling, drug education awareness, skill training workshops, seminars and presentations to Indigenous workers. She has also facilitated cultural awareness workshops for non-Indigenous professionals working with Indigenous people in the AOD field.

Violet is a current member of the Board of Management for NASAS and has also been a member of the Palmerston and WACOSS Boards of Management.
