DAYS (Drug and Alcohol Youth Service) operates from Moore Street East Perth and provide a specialist outpatient service for young people between the ages of 12-18 years with problematic drug use and also involves families and significant others when appropriate. The service provides a comprehensive multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment program both on-site and on an outreach basis. Treatment services include outpatient drug withdrawal, pharmacotherapies, counselling, parent support and medical and/or psychiatric assessment. A shared care model of service in conjunction with other health and welfare services is provided to the majority of clients, while a small number of clients with complex problems are managed on a long-term basis.

The service is also involved in research and evaluation relating to young people and their use of the service.

Latest Update (4 August 2008): With the integration of youth services, YIRRA,  Youth Withdrawal Respite Service & Next Step Youth Services no longer exist as a name.  They have all become DAYS (Drug and Alcohol Youth Service).

Youth service wins top award

Prior to the integration, the Drug and Alcohol Office’s Next Step Youth Service won a National Drug and Alcohol Award for services for young people.

It was also nominated for excellence in treatment.

The award recognises the excellence in services that Next Step Youth Service provides to young people with alcohol and drug-related problems.

Next Step and its integrated services partners offer a range of services including medical, counselling and family support to young people addressing problems linked to alcohol and drug use.
