Next Step Clinical Services was restructured during the course of 2002 in response to recommendations and outcomes identified through the 2001 Community Drug Summit and the WA Drug and Alcohol Strategy. The restructure has positioned Next Step to fulfill the priorities identified for the Agency, which include:

• Developing Next Step as a centre for clinical excellence for the Alcohol and Drug sector;
• Providing evidence-based practice and undertaking clinical research;
• Expanding services delivered by Next Step; and
• Working more closely with the non-government sector.

The restructure has resulted in the establishment of a service delivery model based on integrated Drug and Alcohol Centres. The centres are located in East Perth to service the inner city and east metropolitan area, Fremantle to service the south metropolitan area and Warwick to provide services to the north metropolitan area.

In addition to the drug and alcohol centres, Next Step has continued to provide treatment through the Youth Services Clinic, the inpatient withdrawal services and pharmacy services as well as the provision of clinical training and placements service.
