Managing chronic non-malignant pain with opioids: a Resource Kit for GPs Managing chronic non-malignant pain with opioids: a Resource Kit for GPs

GP
The Drug and Alcohol Office has a new resource kit available for General Practitioners to assist in the management of patients with chronic non-malignant pain using Schedule 8 opioid drugs.

The goal is to achieve a better balance in addressing the treatment of pain while at the same time minimising misuse, addiction and diversion of these pain medicines.

Managing chronic non-malignant pain with opioids: a Resource Kit for GPs provides GPs with clinical guidelines for using opioids in treating chronic non-malignant pain, information on State and Federal requirements for prescribing Schedule 8 medicines, signage to use in waiting rooms regarding the prescription of Schedule 8 drugs on first consultation, information brochures for patients and a treatment contract.

The kit is free-of-charge to GPs and can be ordered simply by completing the fax-back order form, or calling the Department of Health on 1300 135 030.
