ST249 Post-traumatic stress disorder, alcohol and drugs
Friday, 16 October 2009, 9.00 am – 4.30 pm

Presenter: Dr David Cockram, Psychologist and Australian Vietnam infantry combat veteran

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is at its core a consequence of failed memory processing. Why do some people recover from trauma and others develop long-term PTSD and related problems? There is a consistent finding that people with PTSD are more likely to have problems with alcohol and other drugs (AOD). For example, 60% to 80% of Vietnam veterans seeking PTSD treatment have alcohol use disorders. This workshop will identify the criteria for PTSD, the role of personality and discuss effective treatments.

Target audience: For professionals working with AOD using clients

Application deadline date: 2 October 2009
Enquiries: Nicole Cronin, telephone 9370 0327, email DAO.Education@health.wa.gov.au
