ST202 Skills training: Working with AOD using clients
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 14-16 September 2009, 9.00 am – 4.30 pm (each day)

Presenters: Workforce Development staff, DAO

This core training is presented over three days and each session is designed to build on skills sequentially. Topics include:

• effective AOD counselling skills and techniques
• engaging and forming the ‘helping’ relationship
• systemic concepts and approach
• getting and keeping things moving – raising the issue and assessment, motivation and change
• problem - what problem?
• keeping on track – challenges to change
• back to square one – managing relapse
• where to from here?
• other issues including client confidentiality, duty of care, worker self-care.

Target audience: New workers and others wanting to refresh their skills in working with alcohol and drug using clients
