The Workforce Development Branch, Drug and Alcohol Office in collaboration with the Mental Health Division, Department of Health is pleased to offer the Semester 1, 2008 Training@DAO calendar. The calendar provides a range of alcohol and other drug (AOD) knowledge and skills-based training events conducted by experienced professional trainers.

What’s new

The Semester 1, 2008 calendar theme focuses on comorbidity. This training will assist professionals to work more effectively with clients presenting with both mental health and alcohol and other drug-related problems and includes:

  • Models of collaborative care and shared case management;

  • PsyCheck – Application of a mental health screening tool for AOD workers;

  • Workshop by Associate Professor Dan Lubman, ORYGEN Research Centre, Department of Psychiatry, University of Melbourne on ‘Pills, pot and psychosis’ – understanding the relationship between drugs and psychosis in young people;

  • from Go to Whoa – Assessing and responding to psychostimulant users and the link to mental health issues; and

  • Mindfulness and comorbidity.

The calendar also provides popular and repeat events on core knowledge and skills training to support working with AOD using clients; an induction training course for new AOD workers; single session therapy training for working with mandated and other clients; and training for AOD workers on models of family assessment and analysing child risk factors.

A range of education and training events will be offered over two semesters each year: February – June and August – November. All events are free-of-charge. Numbers are limited for each event.
