Semester 2, 2009 calendar

     

The Workforce Development Branch, Drug and Alcohol Office in collaboration with the Mental Health Division, Department of Health is pleased to offer the Semester 2, 2009 Training@DAO calendar. The calendar provides a range of alcohol and other drug (AOD) knowledge and skills-based training events conducted by experienced professional trainers.

What’s new

The Semester 2, 2009 calendar provides professionals with a mix of new training and popular repeat events. 

Sessions include:

    • Culturally secure ways of working with Aboriginal people and families experiencing AOD use problems
    • Therapeutic treatment options for AOD using clients who have experienced child sexual abuse
    • Working with the distress a substance problem can create in a couple’s relationship
    • Assisting AOD using clients to manage their emotions
    • Post-traumatic stress disorder, alcohol and drugs
    • Effective and ethical cross-cultural applications of Western therapeutic paradigms for comorbid presentations
    • Interactions between substance use and psychiatric medications
    • Stepped care approaches to managing young people with comorbidity problems
    • Treating clients effectively with comorbidity problems.

    The calendar also provides training on core knowledge and skills to support those working with AOD using clients, and an induction training course for new AOD workers.

    A range of education and training events is offered over two semesters each year: February – June and August – November. All events are free-of-charge. Numbers are limited for each event.

    We ask applicants who are offered a place on an event to make a commitment to attend. If you are unable to, please advise us as soon as possible, as we may be able to offer your place to another applicant.
