ST222 Induction training for new AOD workers
Monday to Friday, 26 – 30 October 2009 (5 days), 9.00 am – 4.30 pm (each day)

The following event is only for people working in the AOD sector.

Presenters: Heather Jacobson, Senior Workforce Development Officer and other Workforce Development staff, DAO

This training program aims to equip new alcohol and other drug (AOD) workers with the foundation knowledge and skills required to work effectively with clients presenting with AOD problems.

The five-day course will comprise:

• models and frameworks for understanding drug using behaviour
• drug information and strategies for reducing drug-related harm
• AOD specific communication skills, including engaging and raising the issue
• the change process including motivational interviewing, problem solving, goal setting and relapse prevention and management
• strategies for working with clients either voluntary or mandated
• other issues, including client confidentiality and duty of care.

Target audience: New workers in the AOD sector who have a role in responding to AOD issues with clients
