What’s new
The Semester 2, 2008 calendar theme focuses on working with families, couples and young people. This training will provide professionals with the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in how to work effectively with families, couples and young people to address alcohol and other drug issues, therefore improving the outcome for their clients. Sessions include:
- Engaging young people in drug and alcohol treatment
- Ways of framing and responding to couples’ difficulties, including AOD issues
- Cannabis related harms and how to assess and advise clients
- Motivational and cognitive behavioural intervention for cannabis users
- The relationship between childhood trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder and attention deficit disorder in people with problem drug use
- Culturally secure ways of working with Aboriginal people and families experiencing AOD use problems
- Raising the issue of alcohol use before and during pregnancy
- Understanding and working with culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) families and young people around AOD issues
- Supporting parenting skills with drug using clients.
|
The calendar also provides popular repeat events on core knowledge and skills training to support working with AOD using clients, and an induction training course for new AOD workers.
A range of education and training events is offered over two semesters each year: February – June and August – November. All events are free-of-charge. Numbers are limited for each event.
