The Prevention and Workforce Development Directorate provides a range of programs and services aimed at:
- preventing and delaying drug and alcohol use
- creating safer drinking environments
- enhancing community awareness
- building the community's capacity to address drug and alcohol problems.
It also works with the drug and alcohol sector, other agencies and the broader community to:
- ensure access to information, education and training on drug use, drug related harm, and prevention and treatment options
- build the capacity of agencies and professionals to implement effective prevention and treatment practices
- ensure clear and effective pathways of care for people affected by drug and alcohol use.
The Prevention branch of this directorate is responsible for two public health campaigns. Alcohol.Think Again is aimed at creating a safer drinking culture in Western Australia; Drug Aware targets young people with messages about drug use that focus on preventing illegal drug use and minimising harm.
The Workforce Development branch delivers the Drug and Alcohol Office's education and training programs including the Training@DAO calendar.
