The following services are available for clinicians only including GPs and medical professionals treating clients with drug and alcohol problems.

Clinical Advisory Service

The Clinical Advisory Service (CAS) provides a 24 hour phone service for GPs and other health care professionals seeking clinical information and advice on alcohol and drug treatment. This line is available to GPs, pharmacists, nurses, hospitals, alcohol and drug agencies and other health professionals. The CAS is staffed by experienced medical officers from Next Step Drug and Alcohol Services

Phone: (08) 9442 5042 or toll-free for country callers 1800 688 847

Public enquires should be directed to ADIS (see below)

Alcohol and Drug Information Service

Phone: (08) 9442 5000 or toll-free for country callers 1800 198 024

The Alcohol and Drug Information Service is a one-stop-shop for GPs and other professionals looking for quick access to information about drug and alcohol use, and the types of treatment services available. It also provides:

  • care plan support for GPs in rural and remote areas
  • debriefing sessions for those working in the drug and alcohol sector and blood born virus sector
  • regular mentoring sessions via telephone for those who face drug and alcohol issues in their line of work or volunteering.

Alcohol Pharmacotherapies call-back service

An important part of the Alcohol and Drug Information Service is the call-back service, which offers GPs a simple way to refer alcohol-dependent patients to professional counsellors when they need it most.

All you need to do is complete a referral form and fax it to the call-back service. A counsellor from the service will contact your patient, negotiate a treatment plan and keep you informed along the way.
