  • Dedicated drug and alcohol community based services provide counselling to users and their families, support groups and education. They can either be generic (responding to anyone with a drug or alcohol issue) or targeted (responding to a particular age group, gender or specific challenge such as parenting). Some have evolved from Church groups, were initiated by a person's vision or experience, or are responding to a particular need. People seeking counselling in this context should expect that it will be provided by a professionally qualified counsellor. If provided by a Drug and Alcohol Centre or Community Drug Service Team it should be free.
