I'm looking for information on treatment
There are many possible treatment options for someone with a dependency for alcohol or other drugs. Finding the best treatment option depends on a number of factors:
- The drug(s) used – Type, amount, frequency, combination
- Health status – Some conditions can affect some treatment options
- Desired outcome –Not everyone wants to be abstinent
- Location – Some treatments may not be available in some areas.
- Unique circumstances – What suits one may not suit another
Treatment can involve slow or rapid withdrawal, pharmacotherapy, counseling and/or support. It can be done with or without medical support, at home with in-home support, with a series of out patient appointments or in a residential setting.
For information on treatment, check out our educational fact sheets. You might also like to visit the Australian Drug Foundation website for more information.
