  About Us ...

The Drug and Alcohol Office is the government agency which works across the government and non-government sector to address drug and alcohol issues in the community.

Evaluation, Monitoring & Research Evaluation, Monitoring & Research

Effective responses to drug and alcohol related events and consequences rely on efficient, systematic, timely information.  This is essential for priority setting, planning, resource allocation, interventions, monitoring, evaluation and research. Information provides essential intelligence to underpin government responses to drug and alcohol related issues throughout the State and analysis and interpretation of trends and outcome-specific data.  Reports include but are not confined to the following:

  • Strategic performance indicators;
  • Service Environment Reports including:
    • global drug use;
    • national and state drug use trends;
    • national and state treatment responses to AOD problems;
    • morbidity and mortality associated with drug use.

Evaluation and research studies are undertaken for a range of purposes. The main objectives are to:

  • measure progress;
  • provide feedback to the organisations involved;
  • assess performance over time;
  • identify emerging trends and problems; and
  • investigate and trial new interventions in drug use problems including the testing of pharmacotherapies and psychosocial approaches to drug use problems.
